Abstract Objective: To evaluate the clinical value of magnetic resonance venography in diagnosing venous disease of lower extremity. Method: Thirty-eight cases were examined with 2D TOF MRV. Contrast enhancement MRV was performed from the distal part of inferior vena cava to the shank. Result: In 38 cases, MRV showed normal deep veins in 395 segments, venous thrombosis in 5 segments, stenosis in 5 segments and occlusion in 13 segments. With the X-ray angiography(XRA) as a standard of reference, the sensitivity, specificity and the accuracy of MRV in detecting deep vein abnormalities were 100%, 66.67% and 94.44%. Conclusion: As a new repeatable noninvasive imaging examination, MRV is accurate in showing the site, range and degree of venous stenosis and thrombosis of the lower extremity.
