Abstract Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of ultrasound(US) and CT for thyroid carcinoma. Methods: The US and CT appearance in 42 cases of thyroid carcinoma were analyzed retrospectively. All the patients had both US and CT examinations. CT with contrast-enhanced scan and multiplanar reconstruction(MPR) were all employed to differentiate primary tumor and metastatic lymph node in the neck. Result: The final diagnostic rate of thyroid carcinoma with US was 64.3%, and CT was 83.3%. The diagnostic rate of cervical lymph node metastasis with US was 75.0%, with CT was 50.0%. Conclusion: CT is more accurate in the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma than US. But US is better than CT in finding cervical lymph node metastasis of advanced patients. The diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma, when combined US with CT, should be more accurate.
