MR perfusion-weighted imaging in the differentiation of solitary cerebralmetastatic tumors and high-grade gliomas |

Abstract Objective: To determine the value of MR perfusion-weighted imaging(PWI) in the differentiation of solitary cerebral metastatic tumor and high-grade gliomas. Methods: MR PWI features of solitary cerebral metastatic tumors(n=12) or high-grade gliomas(n=22) were compared respectively. Results: After the first pass of contrast agent in PWI, high-grade gliomas demonstrated a rapid recovery of signal intensity; while time-signal-intensity curve(TSIC) of metastatic tumors showed a placid and incomplete recovery of signal intensity. There was no significant difference between the rCBV values of high-grade gliomas and metastatic tumors. However, the para- and peri-tumoral rCBV values of high-grade gliomas were significantly higher than that of metastatic tumors. Conclusion: MR perfusion-weighted imaging is a potential tool to differentiate solitary cerebral metastatic tumor from high-grade gliomas by depicting the hemodynamic features of tumors and peritumoral areas.
