Abstract Objective: To access the concordance of the ICA and SPM in detecting task-induced activated brain regions. Methods: Twenty-eight healthy subjects(15 males, 13 females) performed fMRI scanning, which was block-designed with word generation tasks. SPM5 and GroupICATv2.0a software were used to process the data, then comparison of the results were made. Results: The activated brain region of traditional SPM were left lateral inferior frontal gyrus, left lateral insula, right lateral inferior frontal gyrus and insula, supplementary motor area, right lateral cerebrum, right lateral sriatum and left lateral sriatum. The result of ICA were anterior cingulate gyrus, both sides of middle frontal gyrus, inferior frontal gyrus, insula, left lateral superior parietal lobule and left lateral inferior parietal lobule. Conclusion: The activated brain regions identified by ICA were not completely the same as that identified by SPM, and the ICA result might be an important complement for the SPM result.
