Abstract Objective: To test whether the diagnostic indicators and criteria in the guidelines for the echocardiographic assessment of the right heart in adults by American Society of Echocardiography in 2010(guidelines) is adaptable to native people. Methods: 210 patients presenting with signs and symptoms of cardiopulmonary disease in patient group and 105 healthy individuals in control group accepted right heart assessment following the guidelines. The student’s t test was used to compare the mean value difference. The ROC curve was used to evaluate the indicators value. Results: All indicators in the patient group were statistically different to those in the control group. The thresholds for diagnosis of right heart failure recommended by the guidelines were of high specificity but poor sensitivity. Conclusions: The guidelines are valuable, and should be incorporated into the clinical material to diagnose right heart failure.
