Abstract:Objective: To study the value of selective bronchial arterial embolization(BAE) for massive hemoptysis with gelatin sponge(GS) and silk thread(ST). Materials and Methods: Thirty patients were performed by Seldinger puncture technique through femoral artery. The arteries supplied the lesion responsible for hemoptysis were confirmed by bronchial arteriography. Then the arteries were embolizated with GS and ST. Results: Successful rate was 100% in 30 patients. All cases were follow up for 6 months or more. But 4 cases recurred within half year and were treated by BAE again. Conclusion: Selective BAE with GS and ST have positive effect and was safe for hemoptysis. As long as all supplying arteries were completely embolized, the effect can be gained immediately.
