Abstract  Objective: To investigate the value of color Doppler ultrasonography in the etiological diagnosis and differential diagnosis of nipple discharge. Methods: The ultrasonographic findings of 72 cases with nipple discharge were studied and compared with pathological results. Results: In the 72 cases, 38 cases were intracanalicular papilloma(52.8%), 23 cases were breast cystic hyperplasia(31.9%), 6 cases intracanalicular papillocarcinoma(8.3%), and 5 cases plasma cell mastitis(7.0%). The minimum lesions found by ultrasound were 0.2cm diameter, and the maximum lesion was 2.4cm in diameter, the rate of detection was 90.3%(65/72), the accuracy of ultrasonic diagnosis for nipple discharge was 81.9%. Conclusions: Color Doppler ultrasound played an important role in the differential diagnosis of nipple discharge. It could be the best way to choose for clinical diagnosis of nipple discharge.
