Abstract Objective: To explore the practical value of transthoracic echocardiography(TTE) guiding transcatheter closure in the interventional treatment of congenital heart diseases including atrial septal defect(ASD), ventricular septal defect(VSD), patent ductus arteriosus(PDA). Methods: After transthoracic echocardiography, 33 patients with congenital heart diseases (including 16 cases of ASD, 8 cases of VSD, 9 cases of PDA) underwent Amplatzer occlusion operation. Echocardiography was used before, during, immediately after the operation and one month, six months later not only to diagnose and monitor the condition of the patients but also to access the clinical effect and to follow up patients after the operation. Results: Thirty-two patients were treated successfully, failure in one patient with ASD. No shunt was found after the occlusion operation. The effect of the occlusion was proved to be good by rechecking the condition after the treatment(the pulmonary artery pressure of 14 patients with PAH was ameliorated, the tanspulmonary valve pressure gradient of one ASD patient with PAS was lowered down, for those patients with enlargement of ventricular cavity, recovery of ventricular chamber size was made one month, six months after the operation. Slight shunt still existed in aortic valve of a VSD case after the treatment). Conclusions: The transthoracic echocardiography is very important in selecting the cases for operation, guiding the device Amplatzer during operation and evaluating the efficiency after operation.
