Abstract Objective: To evaluate the significance of multi-slice CT with multiplanar reconstruction(MPR) and enhanced scanning in preoperative classification, staging of laryngeal carcinoma, and to analyze the factors of influence. Methods: Forty-one patients with laryngeal carcinoma diagnosed by electrical laryngoscope were studied by preoperative CT examination and MPR. Its images were used to investigate the classification and staging of tumor, the findings were compared with pathological results. Results: The overall positive predictive value of CT in assessing tumor invasion was 81.9%, false negative rate was 9.3%, the sensitivity was 90.7%. In preoperative T staging, T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 80%, 66.7%, 52.6%, 72.7% respectively. In preoperative N staging， N1 was 58.3%, N2 was 100%. Conclusion: The CT images with MPR and enhanced scan can display shape, size, invasion and lymph node metastasis, and it is of essential value in typing, staging and establishment of reasonable treatment.
