Abstract Objective: To explore the significance of echocardiography in evaluating the effects of inhalational induction with different concentrations of sevoflurane on cardiac function of newborns and infants. Methods: Totally 24 infants from zero to three months old undergoing cutaneous hemangioma operation were randomly divided into three groups according to the inhalation concentration of sevoflurane(6%, 7%, 8%). The values of EF, SV, CO, HR, Sa, Ea and Tei index were calculated before and after induction. Results: After induction, the values of EF, SV, HR, Sa, Ea and Tei index were significantly different from the baseline values in each group(P<0.05). The values of EF, SV, CO, HR, Sa and Ea were not significantly different among each group after induction(P>0.05), while the value of Tei index showed significant difference among the three groups(P<0.05). The value of Tei index of infants inducted with 6% sevoflurane was lower than those of the groups of 7% and 8%(P<0.05), while the latter two were similar(P>0.05). Conclusion: Cardiac function of newborns and infants is lower after inhalation induction with the three concentrations of sevoflurane. The influence of 6% sevoflurane is lower than that of 7% and 8%. Tei index can evaluate the effects of inhalational induction with sevoflurane on cardiac function of newborns and infants.
