Abstract Objective: To research the influence of fetal pulmonary venous velocity waveform during breathing like movements, and to analyse it’s clinical significance. Methods: Pulmonary venous velocity waveform of forty-three normal fetuses between 27 and 36 week’s gestation were examined in apnea(controls) and in the presence of fetal respiratory movements. Fetuses were examined by prenatal Doppler echocardiography with color flow mapping. Peak systolic velocity(S), peak diastolic velocity(D), end diastolic velocity(A), pulsatility index for veins(PIV), peak velocity index for veins(PVIV) were calculated. Results: During fetal breathing movements, PIV, PVIV decreased significantly, whereas A increased. Conclusion: During fetal respiratory movements, the left atrial pressure can be reduced and left ventricular compliance enhanced.
