| Quantitative analysis of enhanced ultrasound for the differential diagnosis of focal pancreatic lesions |

Abstract Objective: To investigate the value of enhanced ultrasound in the differential diagnosis of focal pancreatic benign and malignant lesions. Methods: Enhanced ultrasound were performed in 40 patients suspected of pancreatic mass. The images were correlated with pathologic specimens. From the analysis of time to intensity curve(TIC), the following quantitative data were obtained: area under TIC; time to peak(TP) in different pathologic type of pancreatic lesions, and the gradient(GRAD) between effective contrast peak to the maximum peak. Results: In the benign group, there were no significant differences of area under curve, and GRAD between pancreatic tumor and parenchyma around the lesion(P>0.05). In the malignant group, there was no significant difference of the TP between the tumor and the surrounding paranchymal tissue, but there were significant differences of the area under curve and GRAD(P<0.05). Conclusion: In different pathologic type of focal pancreatic lesions the quantitative parameters of contrast ultrasound were different, quantitative analysis of enhanced ultrasound examination has better clinical value in the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant focal pancreatic lesions.
