Abstract Objective: To evaluate multiple spiral CT(MSCT) in the diagnosis of early renal cell carcinoma(RCC). Methods: 20 cases of early RCC in proved by pathology phases were analyzed retrospectively. Results:①In 10 patients the lesion were seen as low density, in 5 patients medium density were seen, and in 2 patients, it appeared minimal high density. Most lesions except one showed marked enhancement in cortical phase. The tumor density drops promptly in parenchymal phase, and drops further in delayed phase. ②The detection and characterization as well as accuracy of staging in 20 early RCC on MSCT were 100%, 95%, and 95%, respectively. Conclusions: ①In most patients, tumor enhancement showed characteristically the phenomenon of “quick staining and quick fainting”, which is significant in diagnosis of early RCC. ②Two-phase enhanced MSCT scan was a reliable technique in the detection, characterization and staging of early RCC. ③Multi-phase MSCT scan may increase the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in the diagnosis of early RCC.
