Abstract:Objective: To compare the value of color Doppler sonography(CDS) and digital subtraction angiography(DSA) in the diagnosis of extracranial vertebral artery stenosis and hypoplasia. Methods: In the retrospective cohort analysis, 68 patients with extracranial vertebral artery stenosis or hypoplasia underwent CDS and DSA, and in correlation analysis of CDS and DSA, Kappa statistics was used. Results: Correlation of CDS and DSA in detecting extracranial vertebral artery stenosis had excellent consistency, but not in detecting extracranial vertebral artery hypoplasia. Conclusion: Although DSA was the gold standard, CDS detected the extracranial vertebral artery stenosis effectively in our analysis, so CDS should be suggested to be the preliminary screening examination for detecting extracranial vertebral artery stenosis.
