Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of aerobic exercise in patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD) quantitatively by functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI). Methods: Seventeen cases of patients with AD were randomly divided into training group(9 cases) and control group(8 cases). The fMRI data of baseline and 3 months later were got for the amplitude of low frequency fluctuation(ALFF) analysis and analysis of brain functional network. Results: The training group showed increased ALFF value of bilateral prefrontal and anterior cingulate cortex and brain network between centrality(BC) value compared with baseline after 3 months of training, while the BC value of training group was higher than those in control group after 3 months. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Further analysis of the network hubs showed bilateral distribution after training, which was different from the asymmetric distribution before. Conclusion: Resting-state fMRI data suggest that aerobic exercise is helpful to recovery of cognitive function in patients with AD, providing a quantitative evaluation method of effectiveness.
