Abstract:Degenerative mitral regurgitation often occursin mitral prolapse lead by bileaflet mucoid degeneration or fibroelastic deficiency. Echocardiography plays an important role in diagnosis and also can help surgeon to make an appropriate surgical planning. In this review we demonstrate the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinic manifestation, outcome and treatment of degenerative mitral valve diseases. We also place emphases on how to use echocardiography to find degenerative mitral valve diseases.
