The utility of shear wave elastography and micropure imaging in the differentiation of#br# benign and malignant thyroid nodules |

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the utility of shear wave elastography(SWE) and micropure imaging in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules. Methods: A total of 109 consecutive patients with 186 thyroid nodules, who were referred for biopsy results underwent thyroid surgery, were prospectively examined using B-mode ultrasound, ultrasound SWE, and micropure imaging. Results: Final histology revealed 102 benign and 84 malignant. The sensitivity of using SWE, micropure imaging, SWE combined with micropure imaging were 73.8%, 85.7%, 91.7% respectively, the specificity were 86.3%, 83.3%, 89.2% respectively, and the accuracy were 80.6%, 86.0%, 90.3% respectively. SWE combined with micropure imaging had a high correlation with histology. Conclusion: This preliminary study indicates that SWE combined with micropure imaging can be used for the differentiation of benign and malignant thyroid nodules, which could provide an available method in the diagnosis of thyroid nodule.
