Abstract:Objective: To investigate the correlation between characteristic features of spiral computed tomography(SCT) and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and microvessel density(MVD) in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(IHCC). Methods: Triple-phase SCT scanning was performed in 24 patients with 28 pathological confirmed IHCC lesions. SCT signs were observed. Immunohistochemical analysis was carried out in 28 lesions to examine the expression of VEGF and quantity MVD by using antibodies against CD34 in IHCC. The features of SCT were compared with all immunohistochemical results of IHCC. Results: Size of the lesions, invasion and metastasis of IHCC on CT scanning correlated with the expression of VEGF(P<0.05); tumor edge, size of the lesions, invasion and metastatic bile duct dilation and delayed enhancement pattern of IHCC correlated with MVD(P<0.05). Conclusion: SCT imaging features could reflect tumor angiogenesis in certain extent and infer the expression of VEGF, which is very helpful for its early diagnosis and the selection of proper therapy.
