Abstract:Objective: To evaluate aortic compliance in essential hypertension by MRI pulse wave velocity(PWV). Methods: Forty-three patients with essential hypertension and 31 normal volunteers(ascending aorta, abdominal aorta) were measured by MR cine phase-contrast. We got the time-velocity curves and PWV. Results: the PWV of essential hypertension is faster than normal volunteers. There were high repetition(r1=0.90, r2=0.85) measured with method of MRI PWV. Conclusion: MRI PWV can be used as a better means to observe the changes of aortic compliance.
