Abstract:Objective: To investigate the clinical value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis of recurrence and metastasis in post-operative breast cancer. Methods: From January 2008 to December 2012, whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging with attenuation correction was performed in 58 female patients with suspected recurrent or metastasis of breast cancer, age ranged from 32yrs old~79yrs old with an average of 52.7 years old. The primary breast lesions were all confirmed by surgery and pathology. Among these cases, 2 were ductal carcinoma in situ, 1 case was breast invasive lobular carcinoma, 1 was medullary carcinoma, 1 was phyllodes tumor, the rest were invasive ductal carcinoma. Results: Among the 58 cases, 7 cases were recurrence, 34 cases were of metastasis. The range of SUVmax of the local recurrent lesions was 3.64~18.70, with an average of 8.04. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis of breast cancer recurrence and metastasis were 97.50%, 88.89%, 94.83%, 95.12% and 94.12%, respectively. Conclusion: 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging can accurately diagnose breast cancer recurrence and metastasis, can provide important information for clinical establishment of a right treatment plan, and is valuable in monitoring of breast cancer recurrence and metastasis.
