Abstract:Objective: To explore the MSCT appearances and its clinical application values of diseases of pterygoid canal. Materials and Methods: One hundred patients who had pterygoid canal lesions proved by clinical or pathlological materials were studied retrospectively, including 26 cases of bone fracture, 26 cases of fibrous dysplasia, 55 cases of tumor, 3 cases of inflammation. The volume data of all cases were subjected to multiplanar reformation(MPR), curved planar reformation(CPR) in working station after axial scanning. Results: The combinations of axial MSCT images and MPR images fracture lines and the distribution of bone chips were perfectly demonstrated. CPR images can best displayed the influences of fibrous dysplasia on pterygoid canal. When the severe inflammatory pathological changes intruded into pterygoid canal, the fatty tissue in pterygoid canal was blurred, the influence on bone wall in pterygoid canal was only slight. Secondary malignant tumors were the most common lesion of pterygoid canal, the bony wall of pterygoid canal was completely destroyed or canal enlarged. Conclusion: MSCT can accurately diagnose and define the diseases of pterygoid cana1.
