Abstract:Objective: To explore the 1H-MRS change of temporal lobe epilepsy and its value in lateralizion of temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE). Methods: To analyze the NAA/Cr, NAA/(Cr+Cho), Cho/Cr, mI/Cr of mesial temporal lobe in 147 TLE patients. Results: NAA of the involved side in TLE patients were significantly lower than that of the contralateral side and the control group(P<0.05). There were no statistical difference between TLE group and control group in the ratio of NAA to Cho and NAA to mI. The bilateral asymmetry of NAA in unilateral group was more significant than bilateral TLE. The positive lateralization rate of NAA reduction were 70.45% and 50% in the hippocampus sclerosis(HS) and the cryptogenic TLE respectively. The concordance between 1H-MRS(NAA) and EEG were 66% and 50% respectively in these two groups. There are no significant difference between the two methods. Conclusions: 1H-MRS(NAA) may provide TLE lateralizion information, while Cho and mI may not provide this information.
